career at the University at Albany. While this list is not all-inclusive, we hope that it will
provide you with a basis for items that you wish to purchase or bring to campus. Please note that provided to every student is one desk, one chair, dresser, bed,
floor lamp, bathroom shower curtain and fire protective window coverings.

EXTENSION CORD AND POWER STRIP GUIDELINES:
(1) Extension cords cannot be used as a substitute for fixed, permanent
wiring. They can be used temporarily (e.g. running a vacuum cleaner), but
cannot be used as a fixed source of power – extension cords shall only be used
for portable appliances. For all intents and purposes, students should not
possess or use extension cords in the residence halls.
(2) No multi-plug adapters may be used, unless provided with overcurrent protection
in the form of a power strip. Prohibited items include cube taps and unfused plug
strips.
(3) All power strips MUST be UL listed and labeled. They need to be listed to
UL 1363 “Standard for Relocatable Power Taps.”
(4) Power strips cannot be run through doorways, windows or similar
openings. They shall not be placed under rugs or similar coverings.
(5) Power strips shall be plugged directly into a permanently installed wall
receptacle, and NOT be plugged into another power strip or extension
cord. “Piggy backed” power strips are prohibited.
(6) Power strips shall be maintained in good condition.
(7) The ampacity of the power strips shall not be less than the rated capacity of the
portable appliances supplied by the power strip.

Locate quiet study areas - on and off campus
Bus schedules: CDTA and the UAlbany bus (go to www.albany.edu and click on site index, then bus schedules)
Backpack/ Book bag
Lock for athletic lockers
You must purchase parking permit for your vehicle at the Office of Parking and Mass Transit Services – only those living in parents’ home within 50 miles
If commuting by car – emergency road coverage, jumper cables, shovel, sand, extra clothes and a blanket in winter months
